Finally, a little bit of down time! My weekend has been so far jam packed with activities, events, and chaos. 21st and i streets (where I live) have been barracaded off with army humvees and we have the military on the periphery of our campus. Despite the huge influx of visitors to the city, safetly seems to be a huge priority, with police and military on every street corned doing crowd control.
We took off for Annapolis from DC at around 5:30 - and with a little bit of creative navigating we arrived at 7. The Culver Club reception was at the Navy-Marine Stadium - a very pretty party location. There were easily 200 people there, not including the Troopers and Equestriennes who had arrived from Culver the previous day. It was great to catch up with faculty, alums, and current students alike. Dinner was served, and there were some touching speeches from the riding captains, enough to bring a tear to a few eyes around the room. After the event ended, we headed to the hotel where to students were staying to drop off some boots and helmets for Parker and his sister (who are both in the parade). The Culver cadets and co-eds were up to there usual shenanigans, some things truly never change.
We made it back into DC around 1, picked up VIP passes at the Willard and headed out on the town. DC extended its bar hours until 4 am, so I guided my group of fellow '07 alums to a few favorite haunts before calling it a night around 3 am.
Today was slightly more relaxed - brunch in georgetown and some people watching.
Tomorrow I head to the Willard @ 11 am for the parade viewing party, and then a quick costume change for the Michigan Ball, which is being held in the newly renovated natural history museum.
You know you love me - XOXO
